DODGE CITY – Catherine E. Barnes, 95, died Wednesday, July 30, 2025 at High Plains Retirement Village in Lakin.

She was born March 7, 1930 in Jetmore, the daughter of Henry and Elizabeth (Strecker) Schneider.  She was a longtime Dodge City resident and worked at JC Penney's in Dodge City for 22 years until retiring December 31, 1992.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and Moose Lodge both in Dodge City.  She enjoyed sewing, reading and solving crossword puzzles.

On May 9, 1992 she married Marvin Barnes at Dodge City.  He preceded her in death on October 19, 2016.

Survivors include: 3 daughters, Sheryl MacClean and husband Alan, Hollywood, Florida, Susan Aistrup, Wauchula, Florida and Barbara Duesing, Bucklin; 2 sons, Bradley Craig and wife Lanny, Dodge City and Bryan Craig and wife Cindi, Lakin; 8 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, a grandson, an infant granddaughter, 4 sisters and 6 brothers.

Memorial service will be 10:00 am Friday, August 8, 2025 at the First United Methodist Church, Dodge City, with Rev. Berniece Ludlum officiating.  Inurnment will follow in Scroggins Mausoleum at Maple Grove Cemetery in Dodge City.  There will be no public visitation, cremation has taken place.
