CIMARRON – Dixie S. Hertel, 84, died Saturday, December 21, 2024 at St. Catherine's of Dodge City.

She was born December 21, 1940 in Cimarron, the daughter of Jesse and Katie (Boehs) Koehn.  She was a graduate of Cimarron High School and received her Associates degree for Dodge City Community College.  She lived in Topeka for over 30 years and returned to Cimarron where she lived for the past 20 years.  She was a Waybill Clerk for Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad for 10 years until retiring.  She enjoyed jigsaw puzzles and was an avid reader.

Survivors include: 2 sons, Christopher Hertel and wife Laurie, Topeka and Martin Joseph Hertel, Cimarron; a daughter-in-law, Kathy Hertel, Topeka; 3 grandsons, Bryant Patrick Hertel, Timothy Hertel and Kameron Hertel and wife Samantha; 5 great grandchildren; a sister, Jeanette Monroe, Topeka; and a brother, Max Koehn, Marina del Rey, California.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Bryant Hertel and 9 siblings.

Private family services will be held at a later date.  There will be no public viewing, cremation has taken place.

The family suggests memorials to the Over 50's Center or the Cimarron City Library both in care of Ziegler Funeral Chapel, 1901 N. 14th Ave., Dodge City, Kansas 67801.
