Obituary

DODGE CITY - Donna Dee Shumard, age 89, passed away peacefully on May 28, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love, devotion, and cherished family memories.

Born Donna Dee Adrian on June 21, 1936, she was the beloved daughter of Glenn C. and Ina M. Adrian. On March 3, 1956, she married the love of her life, Donald A. Shumard. Together, they built a beautiful life rooted in family and hard work, raising two sons, Donie and David.

Donna truly embraced and loved her role as a farmer’s wife. She took immense pride in the daily rhythm of farm life, ensuring that everyone’s belly was always full, tending beautifully to her flowers, and creating a warm, welcoming home. An avid reader, Donna found great joy in the pages of a good book and was rarely seen without one within arm's reach.

For many years, Donna was also a familiar and enthusiastic face at the racetrack. She spent decades in the stands, passionately cheering on and supporting her husband, her sons, and eventually her grandsons as they raced.

Above all of her interests, Donna’s greatest joy in life was her family. Being a mother and a grandmother was her true calling. She poured her heart into her grandchildren, and the time she spent with them was what she treasured most. She will be dearly missed by many, but especially by those who were lucky enough to call her “Mom” and “Grandma.”

Donna was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Donald A. Shumard; her son, Donie W. Shumard; her parents, Glenn and Ina; six sisters; and two brothers.

Her memory will be forever cherished by her surviving family: her son, David C. Shumard and his wife, Jane; her daughter-in-law, Pam Shumard; her brother, Galen Adrian; her six grandsons; and her 13 great-grandchildren.

A private family service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to the Kansas Soldiers Home or Hospice of the Prairie in care of Ziegler Funeral Chapel, 1901 N. 14th Ave., Dodge City, Kansas 67801.
