Obituary

CIMARRON- Frank Davis, 82, died Thursday, October 26, 2023 at Trinity Manor in Dodge City, Kansas.

He was born April 9, 1941 in Stafford, Kansas, the son of Emerson Harrison and Ethel Grace (Cox) Davis.  Frank worked as a fuel truck driver for Hilker Oil and Thoroughbred trainer until his retirement in spring of 2023.

Frank was a dedicated horseman.  As a kid he rode and showed performance horses.  His interest in horses brought him to Cimarron, Kansas at the age of 19 to begin riding racehorses.  This became his passion and he later began training horses.  He trained many horses over the years and raced them in Kansas, Nebraska, Oklahoma and Colorado.  He galloped his own horses till the age of 72.  He liked being referred to as the oldest gallup boy in Kansas.

Frank was always willing to help any kid that wanted to work around horses.  He is responsible for many great horsemen and women because of his patience and willingness to share with them his knowledge of horsemanship.

Frank enjoyed going to the grandkids and great grandkids sporting events and rodeos. He would often unexpectedly and without drawing attention appear at these events always with a smile on his face.

Survivors include: His significant other of over 20 years, Carol Greenhalgh; 4 children, Rodney and wife Cynthia, Cimarron, Kansas, Brad and wife Jamie, Salina, Kansas, Luke Davis, Cimarron, Kansas, and Meghan Davis, Lawrence, Kansas; 8 grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Timothy; siblings, Arthur Davis, Lawerence Davis, Wilbur Davis, Johnny Davis, Ruth Osborn, Lena Seachris, Esther Christian and Pearl Dotson; and one grandson, Blake Stanley.
