Jerry "J.D."
Cole
Apr 29, 1939 — Mar 2, 2025
DODGE CITY – Jerry Don Cole, known to those who loved him as J.D., passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 2, 2025, in Dodge City, Kansas, at the age of 85. Born April 29, 1939, in Soper, Oklahoma, J.D. was the son of Leonard and Hetty (Fails) Cole. He was a proud resident of Dodge City since 1960, having moved from Pampa, Texas. For 30 years, J.D. was a Factory Distributor for Kirby Vacuums, a role that allowed him to build lasting friendships throughout his career.
J.D.'s life was nothing short of extraordinary. He embraced every adventure, large and small, with a spirit of joy and curiosity. An avid outdoorsman, he treasured his time at Wild Thang Ranch in Colorado, where he not only pursued his passion for hunting but also guided his family and friends on hunts, teaching his kids and grandkids to appreciate the outdoors. If he wasn't in Colorado, he could be found in his horse barn, raising and training horses.
Above all, J.D. was a devoted family man. His greatest joy was the time spent with his loved ones—his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. His stories, filled with humor, wisdom, and unforgettable adventures, will live on in the hearts of those who had the privilege of hearing them. His presence was a gift, and he leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories.
On February 14, 1957, J.D. married the love of his life, Leola Charlene Wallis, in Kingsman, Texas. Together, they built a life rich in love, adventure, and family, marking 68 years of marriage.
J.D. is survived by his beloved wife, Leola Charlene; his sons, Lee Cole and his wife Charlynn of Galena, Missouri, and Monty Cole of Hamilton, Colorado; his daughter, Ronda Perkins and her husband, Roger, of North Platte, Nebraska; and six grandchildren: Kacey Ward and her husband Tanner, Billy Cole, Kelley Cole and his wife Stephanie, Bobby Cole and his wife Lisa, Chelsy Cantwell and her husband Justin, and Cody Cole. He was also blessed with 15 great-grandchildren who brought him immense pride and joy.
J.D. was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Hetty Cole; his brothers, Bill and Ted Cole; and his sisters, Lyndale Beavers and Daphine Snuggs.
At J.D.'s request, no services will be held, and there will be no public viewing. Cremation has already taken place. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Colorado Parks and Wildlife in care of Ziegler Funeral Chapel, 1901 N. 14th Avenue, Dodge City, Kansas 67801. The family invites friends and loved ones to send condolences to www.zieglerfuneralchapel.com.
J.D.'s adventurous spirit, his tough and straightforward nature, and his deep love for family will never be forgotten. He lived a life full of purpose and joy, leaving a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.
