DODGE CITY – John Robert "Bob" McDowell, 73, died Wednesday, March 3, 2021 at the Kansas Soldiers Home in Fort Dodge, Kansas.

He was born on September 3, 1947 at Dodge City, Kansas the son of John and Mildred (Maxwell) McDowell. He was a lifetime area resident. He enjoyed spending time with his friends and talking about his cattle. Bob liked to watch horse racing and sports. He served in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany.

On September 18, 1970 he married Jackie Delores Smith in Dodge City, Kansas. She preceded him in death on January 11, 2020.

Survivors include: a son, Kelly McDowell, Dodge City; a daughter, Brandie Ferguson and husband Aaron, Ensign, Kansas; a brother, Donald French and wife Esther, Garden City, Kansas; 2 grandchildren, Brandon and Rilyn Ferguson; and many nieces, nephews, and great nieces, and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Private family services will be held at a later date. There will be no public viewing, cremation has taken place.
