John E.
Indiek
Feb 15, 1933 — May 15, 2024
SPEARVILLE – John E. Indiek passed away peacefully at the age of 91 on May 15, 2024, at Southwind of Spearville. He was born on February 15, 1933, in Offerle, to parents Benjamin W. and Helen (Schreck) Indiek.
He graduated from Windthorst High School in 1950 and remained in the area as a lifetime resident farmer and rancher.
On October 27, 1956, he married the love of his life Phyllis Schmitt at St. Peter and Paul Church in Kinsley.
John spent the majority of his time farming, tinkering in the shed, or checking oil wells and made date nights with Phyllis a priority. He was a family man and also enjoyed dancing, bowling, traveling, and spending time at the lake with the kids. He spent time with his grandkids by taking them to the pond on the farm and giving his famous "love taps."
John believed in a strong work ethic and dedication to family and the Catholic faith that would define him for the rest of his life. John continued to farm and ranch until he was forced into "early" retirement at the age of 90.
He was a member of St. John the Baptist Church and Knights of Columbus Council 1539 both in Spearville. He served on the Farm Bureau Board, Wheatland Township Board, and the Southwest Kansas Area of Aging Board.
Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Phyllis, Spearville; 3 daughters, Vicki and Mike Lee, Wichita, Lori and Tom Burke, Spearville, and Joni and Robin Indiek, Bayfield, Colorado; 5 grandchildren, Chris Lee of Wichita, Mike & Jennifer (Lee) Dupree of Wichita, Scott & Dawn Burke of Spearville, Kyndell & Shawna (Burke) Penick of Dodge City, Nathan & Veronica Lee of Wichita, Jaylen Indiek of Wichita; and 8 great-grandchildren, Lea, Hailey, Scott Jr., Kayden, Audrey, Parker, Collin and Connor.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his son, Rick Indiek, 2 brothers, Tony and Victor Indiek; and 4 sisters, Esther Andra, Delphine Peintner, Berna Mae Donnermeyer, and Clarine Durler.
