Obituary

CIMARRON –Kristy Ann Ast, 61, passed peacefully on Saturday, November 22, 2025, at her home near Cimarron, surrounded by her family.

Kristy was born on October 12, 1964, in Kansas City, Kansas, the daughter of Clyde Eugene and Martha Nadine (Morris) Setzer. She graduated from Kansas State University with a Bachelor's Degree in Education in 1988. On June 17, 1988, she married the love of her life, David Ast, in Kansas City.

After moving to Cimarron, Kristy worked at Flatlands Animal Hospital, Cimarron State Bank, and First National Bank before devoting her time fully to what mattered most—her family. For the last five years, some of her greatest joy came from watching her grandsons every day. She poured her whole heart into being a mom and "Mimi," and her family was truly the center of her world.

Kristy had a gentle spirit and a deep love for animals, a passion for traveling, and a commitment to cheering on her children at every sporting event. She faithfully served her parish community at St. Stanislaus Church in Ingalls as a member of the Altar Society and as a dedicated sacristan for ten years.

Kristy is survived by her husband, David, of Cimarron; her children, Nicholas Ast and his wife Danielle of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Jessica Chalkley and her husband Mitch of Garden City; her beloved grandsons, Parker and Landry Chalkley; and her brother, Jeff Setzer and his wife Tiffany of Atlanta, Georgia, and her sister, Kerry Green of Basehor, Kansas.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Mark Setzer; a brother-in-law, John Green; her parents-in-law, Ray and Doris Ast; and her nephew, Jeremy Starnes.

Kristy will be remembered for her kindness, her strength, her unwavering love for her family, and the way she made every person feel cared for. Her legacy will live on in the countless lives she touched—especially in her children and grandchildren, who adored her beyond measure.
