DODGE CITY – LauRay S. Edwards, 80, died Friday, April 10, 2026 at her home in Dodge City.

She was born August 4, 1945 in Dodge City, the daughter of Lawrence R. and Regina (Stegman) Israel.  She attended Sacred Heart Catholic School and graduated St. Mary of the Plains High School as well Cosmetology School.  She was a lifetime area resident and was a hairdresser throughout her life.

She was a member of the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe, Dodge City, and enjoyed making floral arrangements, especially wreaths, as well as competing in hairdressing competitions.

Survivors include: her daughter, Metissa Avelluto, Lawrence, Kansas; her grandson, Massimo Avelluto, Scottsdale, Arizona; 3 sisters, Shirley Schmidt, Spearville, Mary Kay Urban and husband Terry, Salina and Judy Hilker and husband Dave, Cimarron; a son-in-law, Joe Avelluto, Kansas City, Missouri and caregiver, Lynn Torson, Dodge City.

She was preceded in death by her parents and 3 sisters, Virginia Downing, Carol Gaddert and Barbara Grantham.

Graveside service will be 10:00 am Saturday, April 25, 2026 at Greencrest Memorial Gardens, Dodge City, with Fr. John Stang officiating.  Visitation will be Friday, April 24, 2026 from noon to 8:00 pm with the family present from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Ziegler Funeral Chapel, Dodge City.
