SPEARVILLE – Leesa Denise Shafer, 69, left our world on Saturday, October 8, 2022 at Southwind at Spearville to join our Lord Jesus Christ in a better world.

She was born at Trinity Hospital, Dodge City, on January 31, 1953 to James and Wanda Henry.  She graduated from Ford High School in 1971.  On November 19, 1983 she married Earl Michael Shafer at the First Presbyterian Church, Dodge City, and lived in Spearville.  In 1985 she began managing the local city library which was later supported by Lions Club and the Spearville Township.  She later became the Library Director and for the next 35 years built the library into something Spearville could be proud of.  Leesa and Earl welcomed a son, Garrett Michael Shafer, to our world on August 22, 1992.

Leesa is survived by her husband, Mike; her mother, Wanda Henry; a brother, L.D. Henry and wife Marlinda; 2 sisters, Linda Kling and husband Lenny and Lana Wilkes; son, Garrett Shafer and wife Kellan; daughter, Shannon Howard and husband Troy; a daughter-in-law, Jenny Shafer; 8 grandchildren, Mikayla, Victoria, Anna, Braydon, Vincent, Layton, Kairi and Loralei. She was loved and will be missed.

She was preceded in death by her father and a son, Shane.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 am Saturday, October 15, 2022 at the Federated Church, Spearville, with Pastor Kevin Salzman officiating.  Burial will follow in the Ford Cemetery, Ford.  Visitation will be Friday from noon to 8:00 pm at Ziegler Funeral Chapel, Dodge City.

The family suggests memorials to the Spearville Township Library, to be used to purchase children's book in her name, in care of Ziegler Funeral Chapel, 1901 N. 14 ^th Ave., Dodge City, Kansas 67801.
