SPEARVILLE, Kansas – LeRoy Mages, 91, departed this life peacefully on Thursday, July 17, 2025, surrounded by family at Southwind at Spearville.

He was born August 2, 1933 at Spearville, the son of Leo and Lucille (Schaffer) Mages.

He was a lifelong resident of Spearville and a retired area farmer. Throughout his life he had an unwavering faith in God which he shared with those around him. In addition to being a dedicated husband, loving father and proud grandfather,

LeRoy was known for his kind heart, his strong work ethic, and his unwavering love for his family. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Church, 3rd Degree member of Knights of Columbus Council 1539 and The Card Club all in Spearville. He loved spending time with family, playing cards, games, golfing and family trips. He was an avid sports fan, cheering on Spearville sports teams and especially the St. Louis Cardinals.

On February 15, 1958 he married Bernice Konda at Windthorst, Kansas.  She preceded him in death on October 5, 2020. He was also preceded in death by his parents and brother, Erwin Mages. Survivors include: his 3 children, Kevin Mages, Spearville, Karla Mages, Murfreesboro, Tennessee and Kelly Mages, Lenexa, Kansas; 2 grandchildren, Addison and Ellaina Mages; 3 brothers, Cletus Mages, Ashland, Kansas, Lou Mages and wife Pat, Thousand Oaks, California and Frank Mages and wife Barb, Spearville; 4 sisters, Pauline Kamphaus, Kinsley, Kansas, Toni Aistrup, Spearville, Carolyn Donovan and husband Mike, Wichita and Jeanette Green, Tucson, Arizona; and a sister-in-law, Roberta Mages, Perkins, Oklahoma.

Rosary will be at 9:30 am Tuesday, July 22, 2025 with the Funeral Mass at 10:00 am Tuesday, both at St. John the Baptist Church with Fr. John Forkuoh presiding.  Burial will follow in St. John Cemetery, Spearville.  Visitation will be Monday, July 21, 2025 from 1:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Ziegler Funeral Chapel, Dodge City, Ks.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Southwind at Spearville or St. John the Baptist Church in care of Ziegler Funeral Chapel, 1901 N. 14th Ave., Dodge City, Kansas 67801.

LeRoy will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His legacy of hard work and love for the land will live on in our hearts. His work on earth is done. The gate will be closed.
