DODGE CITY – Michael Jess Maupin, 70, died Thursday, July 5, 2018 at Western Plains Medical Complex, Dodge City.

He was born July 4, 1948 in Natoma, Kansas, the son of John and Hortense (Russell) Maupin. Michael grew up in Natoma and graduated from Natoma High School. They moved to Dodge City in 1978 from Hutchinson, Kansas.

On December 30 ^th , 1969 Michael married Gabriele Bohl at Landstuhl, Germany. She passed away on October 12, 2012.

He worked as an accountant for many years and also for Cargill.  Michael enjoyed collecting fossils and learning as much as he could about history. He also enjoyed reading and loved spending time with his family and being a grandfather "Opa".

Survivors include: 1 son, Michael Maupin, Dodge City, Kansas; 1 daughter, Christina Rumbaugh and husband Aaron, Dodge City; 1 brother, Johnny Maupin, Dodge City; 1 sister, Sue Petty, Osborn, Kansas; grandson, Michael Rumbaugh; 2 sister in laws, Nellie and Beverly Maupin.

He was also preceded in death by his parents, 3 sisters, his twin sister Mary Dewey, Ona Maupin and Paticia Hosier, 3 brother in laws, Billy Hosier, Weldon Zamecnik and Donald Petty.

Memorial services will be 10:00 am Tuesday, July 10, 2018 at Ziegler Funeral Chapel with Richard Crockett officiating.  There will be a book signing Monday from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm at Ziegler Funeral Chapel. There will be no public viewing, cremation has taken place.
