GARDEN CITY – Monica Halling, 61, passed away peacefully on May 24, 2024 in her daughter's home with her husband at her side after a long battle with cancer.

Monica was born in Dodge City, Kansas to James E. and Betty Lou (Hodges) Gibbons. She graduated from Dodge City High School and then went on to receive a Bachelors degree in Secondary Education and a Masters degree in English as a Second Language from St. Mary's College. She married Michael Shean on October 21, 2012 in Garden City, Kansas.

Monicia was a middle school English teacher in Hanston, Kansas and then an English and ESL teacher at Dodge City Middle School. She went on to work at IHOP where she made many wonderful friends, Wards until the pandemic, and then at the Tyson plant until she was no longer able to work in 2022.

She loved sewing, gardening, animals and her adorable rescue dog, Joseph Elizabeth.

Monica is survived by her husband, Mike Shean, Garden City, Kansas; her daughters, Jessica Halling and wife Chandra Rivera, Colorado Springs, Colorado and Teresa Shean; son, Christopher Mefford and wife Lee; sister, Mary Ubel and husband David; brother, Jamie Gibbons; grandchildren, Alex, Aiden, and Abrehn Law, Jason, Jenesis and RaeLynn Rivera.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

A Celebration of Monica's Life will be at 10:30 am Saturday, June 29, 2024 at Ziegler Funeral Chapel, Dodge City, with David Johnson officiating.  There will be no public viewing, cremation has taken place.
