Obituary

WICHITA - Myrlin Cayabyab Spencer, 76, of Wichita, Kansas, passed away on April 26, 2026. She was born on May 11, 1949, in Dagupan City, Philippines, to Gliceria Cayabyab and Benaventora "Ben" Soy. After the passing of her father while she was in second grade, her mother later remarried Larry Curry. At the age of 16, Myrlin moved to the United States with her family, beginning a new chapter of her life that would be marked by hard work, devotion, and deep love for those around her.

Myrlin graduated from Friends University in Wichita, Kansas, with a master's degree in business. She went on to build a long and dedicated career as a Director of Food Service, serving many different locations throughout her life. Her work reflected the same care, discipline, and commitment she gave to her family every day.

On December 6, 1969, Myrlin married the love of her life, Charles Wesley Spencer. They shared many years together until Charles' passing in July of 2015. Their marriage was a lasting example of love, partnership, and devotion.

Myrlin was the eldest of her siblings and was deeply connected to her family. She is survived by her son, Thomas Spencer (Amy) her siblings Faye Thompson (Victor) Josie Langley (Randal) Ben Soy (Linda) and Connie Siapno (Jerry). She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren, Joshua (deceased), Caya Spencer, Charlie Spencer, and Wesley Spencer, as well as her step-grandson, Julian Freeman, and her beloved nieces and nephews and extended family.

Myrlin loved her family deeply and always wanted the very best for them. She spoke proudly of her son and grandchildren and beamed with joy at their accomplishments. Her love was steady, selfless, and unconditional. She was especially proud of her family, and she held each of them close to her heart.

She will be remembered for her strength, her kindness, her devotion to family, and the quiet ways she made life better for those she loved. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
