DODGE CITY – Rawlin Smith, 78, died Tuesday, November 4, 2025, at St. Catherine's of Dodge City.

Rawlin was born May 25, 1947, in Dodge City, KS. The son of Vernon LeRoy and Mary Louise (Johnson) Smith, he was a graduate of Dodge City High School and a lifetime area resident. He was a horse trainer throughout his life. For over 30 years he was a truck driver for numerous area companies until retiring in June 2009.

He was a member of St. Andrew Parish, Wright Kansas; Knights of Columbus; VFW; Order of the Purple Heart.

He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War obtaining the rank of Sergeant becoming highly decorated.

On June 16, 1973, he married Sara Redburn in Dodge City.

Survivors include: his wife of 52 years, Sara; 2 sons, J.D. Smith, El Dorado, and Andy Smith and wife Melanie, Dodge City; and 3 grandchildren, Kylee Smith, Wichita, Hogan Smith, Kansas City, and Tucker Smith, Manhattan.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, Leslie and Robin Smith and a sister, Juaniece Hamilton.

Vigil service will be at 7:00 pm Tuesday, November 11, 2025, at St. Andrew Church, Wright, KS. Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 am on Wednesday, November 12, also at St. Andrews, with Fr. Ted Stoecklein and Fr. Bob Schremmer presiding. Burial will follow in St. Andrew Cemetery with military honors by KSARNG Honor Guard and Southwest Kansas Veterans Funeral Honor Guard. Visitation will be on Tuesday, from 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm at Ziegler Funeral Chapel, Dodge City.
