Obituary

DODGE CITY - Rick left this earth on February 9 th , 2023 at KU Medical Center surrounded by his family and dear friends.  We know that he greeted God with the biggest hug and suspect that he is already helping to prepare Heaven's Farm for the season.  He was born on January 9 th , 1966 in Kinsley, Kansas to parents John and Phyllis (Schmitt) Indiek.  He was the youngest and only brother to 3 sisters.  He graduated from Spearville High School in 1984 and "4-O'd" Garden City Community College in 1986.

Rick was a wonderful father.  He adored his daughter and was so proud of the woman that she had become.  Despite the challenges that come along with being a single father, Jaylen was always, and will forever be, the love of his life.

Rick had the gift for farming.  He did so across 3 counties and enjoyed everything but the drive time.  He raised both milo and winter wheat, and always ran cattle.  He always talked about riding with Jaylen on the tractor with her bottle in one hand and the steering wheel in the other.  He was in the office in his recliner every Monday morning and the HR department was never in.

Anyone who met Rick immediately knew that he had a larger than life personality.  He would light up the room wherever he went and his smile and laugh were contagious.  He stepped in to support many of his friends in their time of need.  He wanted let them know they were loved no matter what their circumstances were.   He greeted every woman he knew with the biggest hug and kiss on the cheek, as was his signature.   If you ever needed a dance partner, he was your guy.  Back in the day, if he wasn't playing Volleyball, he was playing Basketball.  His teams were very competitive.  He played Olympians in Volleyball and the Globetrotters in Basketball.  It has even been said that he was pantsed by one of the female Globetrotters at the Civic Center while making a shot.  His last Co-Ed Volleyball Team Championship was won at the YMCA in 2017.  More recently, you could find him either working at his farm, Judy's Café for lunch, his office, or relaxing at Horse Thief Reservoir with friends.  Rick won the Golden Hammer Award and was a member of the Knights of Columbus.

Rick has left many meaningful and happy memories for those who knew and loved him that will last their lifetimes.  His friends and family will continue to honor his legacy by showing love and living life to the fullest.
