Obituary

DODGE CITY - Rodney (Rod) Kayne Wormington, passed away on Tuesday, March 5, 2024, in Dodge City, KS after a valiant fight against cancer.

Rod was born March 23, 1949, in Dodge City, KS. He was the son of the late Marian Maupin Berghaus.  In 1967 he graduated from St. Mary of the Plains High School. He graduated from Pittsburg State University with a BS in Industrial Technology in 1971.  Upon graduation, he returned home to help with the family business.  He spent his career at B&B Auto Parts working alongside his mother until her death in 1989.

In 2010 Rod sold B&B and entered retirement.  This lasted approximately 3 weeks. He was not one to sit still.  His retirement "gig" was at Mariah Hills golf course.  He helped with grounds and equipment maintenance.  The position allowed him to go fishing with his grandkids as often as possible.  Wilson lake holds a special place in the hearts of his family.  Since golf courses are seasonal, it allowed him to chase his dream of heading south for the winter.  He found a community of people that had more fun than the average teenager.  Palm Creek Resort was his second home.  The seasonable weather and lack of wind allowed him to take back up a hobby from his youth, RC airplanes.

Rod is survived by his wife, Colleen Hastings of the home.  Daughters, Dawn (Charlie) Williams of Garden City, KS, Brandee (James) Good of Satanta, KS, Stephanie (Nick) Rodriquez, Denver CO and Brittanie (Brandon) Kelley, Dodge City.  Brother Terry Wormington of Metaline Falls, WA, Sisters:  Sherry Irsik of Wamego, KS, Mary Berghaus, Tulsa OK and Helen Lucas, Denton TX.  His beloved grandchildren:  Logann, Spencer and Beckett Williams, Caydon and Caylee Good, Israel, Esteban, Nick, Daveon, Fabeon, and Angel Rodriquez, Gavin and Jentrie Kelley.   Numerous nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his mother, Marian Maupin Berghaus, brothers in law, Kevin Irsik and Dave Lucas and a niece Trina Irsik.

Memorial service will be at 2:30 pm Monday, March 11, 2024, at Ziegler Funeral Chapel, Dodge City, with Fr. Daryl Olmstead officiating.  There will be no public viewing, cremation has taken place.
