DODGE CITY – Roy A. Smith, 91, died Tuesday, April 6, 2021 at Western Plains Medical Complex, Dodge City.

He was born December 5, 1929 at Great Bend, Kansas the son of Frank H. and Edna M. (Detemphle) Smith.  He served in the United States Army and was stationed in Japan.  He was a truck driver and longtime Dodge City resident, living a short time in Portland, Oregon and Las Vegas Nevada.

He was a member of the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe, Dodge City.

In November 1951, he married Sarah Augusta Kreger at Raton, New Mexico.  They later divorced.

Survivors include: his daughter, Ruby Jean Kreger, Meridian, Idaho; a brother, J.D. Smith, Nashville, Tennessee; a sister, Theresa James, Topeka; 4 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and 8 great great grandchildren; and numerous nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 6 brothers, Frank, Jerome, John, Charles, Albert and Paul Smith and 2 sisters, Loretta Calandar and Margaret Cummings.

Graveside services will be at 1:00 pm Tuesday, April 13, 2021 at Greencrest Memorial Gardens, Dodge City, with Fr. Rudin Din presiding.  There will be no public viewing, the casket will remain closed.
