Obituary

CIMARRON – Sharon K. Reynolds, a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and pillar of the Dodge City community, passed away on March 11, 2026, at the age of 82 at Ascension Via Christi St Joseph, Wichita.

She was born August 26, 1943, in Hodgeman County, Kansas, the daughter of Jess Ray and Mary Elizabeth (Mitchell) King. She was a 1961 graduate of Dodge City High School and received her Associate's Degree from Dodge City Community College.

She worked for the Kindsvater family for over 35 years, both at Kindsvater Truck Line and as Manager of the Hitch'N Post Truck Stop in Dodge City, where she became a familiar and friendly face to many.

She will be remembered first and foremost for her love of family and the joy she found in life's simple and meaningful moments. She was an avid gardener, a talented quilter, and a lifelong reader who believed books could take you anywhere—even when travel wasn't possible. She enjoyed being outdoors and traveling whenever she could, including to Ireland, Costa Rica, the Bahamas, the Virgin Islands, and many other places with family and friends. Later in life, she proudly became a Kansas City Chiefs fan.

A woman of strong conviction, she was well-respected, often outspoken, and always stood up for what she believed in. She carried that passion into her community involvement, where she made a lasting difference.

In the late 1960s, she co-founded 2-Tops Chapters in Dodge City and served as President from 1969 to 1970. She co-chaired the March of Dimes Fund Drive in 1969. Her commitment to service continued through her work with the Mental Health Association of Ford County from 1980 to 1986, where she served in numerous leadership roles, including Secretary (1981–1982), 2nd Vice President (1983), 1st Vice President (1984), and President (1985). During her tenure, she initiated impactful programs such as a Radio Auction fundraiser, Luncheon Forums on mental health issues, helped institute the OMNE program, and organized the first "Walk for Mental Health" in 1984.

She was an active and influential member of the Dodge City Women's Chamber, serving as Chairwoman of the Rodeo Committee (1982–1984) and President in 1986. During her presidency, she introduced the Athena Award, established the Tourism Committee, and implemented long-range planning initiatives. She later served as Chairwoman of the Tourism Committee from 1987 to 1989 and contributed to multiple committees. She served on the Budget Committee of the United Way of Dodge City (1987–1988), was a board member of the Dodge City Convention & Visitors Bureau (1988–1991), and volunteered with the DCF&B Railroad and Ford Depot.

Her civic involvement extended into education and public service. She participated in the Study Program for the USD 443 School Dilemma in 1987 and worked on various political campaigns supporting Jay Don Reynolds, Don Smith, Tom Kindsvater, and Dennis Kindsvater. She was involved with the Dodge City Drover's group and was a member of Epsilon Sigma Alpha, Kappa Rho Chapter. In 1990, she served on the Drug Task Force for the Trucking Industry through New Chance.

Later in life, she moved to Virginia to be closer to her son, Darin, and his family, where she served as an office assistant at St. Gertrude's High School in Richmond. Upon returning to Kansas, she again worked at the Hitch'N Post before retiring.

Retirement, however, did not slow her down. In the summer of 2010, she partnered with her close friend Bonita McClure to create 2 Krazy Ladyz LLC Soda Wagon and brought old-fashioned soda pop to music festivals, fairs, and community events across Kansas.

She continued to give back through volunteer work with the Ford County Historical Society and Jana's Campaign. She found great joy in quilting alongside her dear friend Sonya Hughes, creating pieces for the Ford County Humane Society and the Dodge City Police Department.

She treasured time spent with her friends, especially her beloved group, "Birds of a Feather," and always looked forward to their gatherings.

Above all, she will be remembered for her strength, generosity, and dedication to both her family and community. Her legacy is one of service, resilience, and love.
