Obituary

CIMARRON - Shirley Riley, 57, passed unexpectedly on February 8, 2019 in Cimarron, Kansas.

Shirley was born December 11, 1961 in Johnson City, Tennessee to John and Patricia King. She married her spouse, Tommy Riley on December 23, 1978 in Hasty, Colorado. The couple lived in McClave, Colorado, where they raised their 5 children, Melissa, August, Sarah, Amanda and Joseph. Shirley is most known for employment with the McClave School District, where she worked as both a lunch room attendant and custodian. The family moved to Cimarron, Kansas in May of 1997. Shirley worked many jobs while residing in Cimarron. Her fondest was at the nursing home. She loved all the residents there and grew close to many. Her recent employment was at Cimarron Foods.

Shirley was devoted to her family and loved them unconditionally. Her happiest moments were when all of her children and grandchildren could be home.  She loved being with them all, getting to be there for the births of many of her grandchildren. A family that started as 2, quickly become 7.  As the years have gone by that family of 7 has grown to 25.  Shirley loved her family with everything in her.  It is with her love and support that the family has grown so much.  Her legacy will be passed on for generations to come.

She is survived by her husband, Tommy Riley, Cimarron; a sister, Renee Bishop, Kingsport, Tennessee; her five children, Melissa McGregor and husband Robert, Honolulu, Hawaii, August Riley, Sublette, Sarah Unruh and husband Jakeb, Atwood, Amanda Riley, Cimarron and Joseph Riley, Cimarron; 14 grandchildren; and many nephews and nieces.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Patricia King, 2 brothers, Bobby and Jim King, a sister, Susan Smith, infant twins McGregor and a granddaughter, Emma Grace Unruh.

Funeral service will be 10:00 am Friday, February 15, 2019 at the Cimarron United Methodist Church with Rev. Mike Keating officiating.  Burial will be at 2:00 pm MST, Friday in the Union Valley Cemetery in Hasty, Colorado.  There will be no public viewing.  The casket will remain closed.
